Junior Ladder

The Didcot Junior Chess Club ladder is in place to allow for some more competitive games to take place each week. Players at the club who want to participate in the ladder will be placed according to a supervisor’s assessment, and can then challenge players above them to move upwards, according to the rules here.

Please do not take the matches too seriously, there will always be the possibility to win back a position in the following week.

Ladder rules

  1. Players can only make one challenge per session.
  2. A challenge can only be made to players at most two places higher on the ladder.
  3. If the challenger wins the match the players switch position on the ladder. Draws or losses mean the positions are unchanged.
  4. Players should accept the first challenge made in a session, but are not obliged to accept any further challenges.
  5. Matches are played with a clock set to a time control of 10+5 (10 minutes with 5 seconds added each move).
  6. The player being challenged gets to choose their colour, unless there was a previous challenge – in which case the player choosing the colour alternates.
